The term complexity generally refers to two very specific situations. On the one hand, the set of characteristics of what is made up of many elements is designated by the word complexity. The best example we can give to understand this reference is that of the puzzle, the fact that it is composed of several pieces, a thousand in some very sophisticated cases that can be found in the market, is what will give the game the complexity that we mentioned.
And on the other hand, when a certain question that is presented to us, for example, an exercise or a situation, is characterized by its difficulty and quality of difficult and complicated. The term complexity is also often used to refer to the aforementioned issue.
Meanwhile, the word complexity, these days has a great popularity since it is usually continuously applied in common language to refer to any type of failure, imponderable or negligence that occurs to us in the performance of our daily activities.
That is to say, complexity is fully associated with the word problem and perhaps the reason for this we find in that almost always when a problem invades our attention, surely, to give it a solution, we face the choice of several variable and heterogeneous solutions, a fact that refers to perceiving several interrelated elements and that places us almost in the same context as the one described in the first definition of complexity.
On the other hand, and almost hand in hand with complexity, we could say, the human being of today encounters and faces different elements, tools and services that allow him, to a greater or lesser extent, to reduce complexity as much as possible, understood as Difficulty, of course, that it may appear to them in some aspect of their lives. That is, if I find it difficult to solve a mathematical issue, then I can go to a teacher to understand it and solve the complexity, or if, for example, I cannot solve the decoration of my house myself, I can consult specialized magazines on the matter that offer different alternatives of decorating or hiring an expert in the field such as being a decorator.
