history

event definition

The term 'event' refers to an event or fact that happens suddenly and that is generated by certain causes, at the same time that it generates consequences and consequent linked events. A combination of events all linked together results in great processes that are studied by different sciences according to their interest. For example, a chain of biological events, climatic events, historical events, and even events in the life of a particular individual.

The event always supposes a break with previous events, even if such a break is small or even invisible in the entire course of events. An event is also a particular and specific fact that, although it may present similarities with other events, always acts as an indivisible element whose causes and consequences are unique and unrepeatable.

Generally, the notion of event is related to striking or unusual events, which are out of tune with the common development of events, but without a doubt every fact, event or element can be an event in itself despite going unnoticed.

For history, the event is the basis of its study. History resorts to the analysis of past events and events through the causes that generated it but also from the consequences that such events projected into the future. A historical event is any event that was part of a larger chain of events and that contributed to the subsequent historical development. It is important to clarify that an event is always a definable fact and, in the case of history, minimally locatable temporarily. This is unlike large historical processes that are long-term events and cannot be precisely dated.

In this sense, everything can be understood as a historical event as long as it has happened in the past, but normally the term is applied to those outstanding events that alter the common course of history, for example the attack of September 11, 2001. , the fall of the Berlin Wall, the assassination of JF Kennedy and many others.
