definition of correspondence

The word correspondence is a term that has several uses in our language, while one of the most common is the one that is synonymous with letter.

Letter that is exchanged with another person informally or that goes to an institution to make a claim or request

That is, the correspondence is the letter or the set of them that consist of a written text through which an individual communicates to another some question, or informs him of his news.

Structure of the correspondence and modifications that it has undergone over time

The letter, which is a type of written communication that two individuals maintain, has undergone substantial changes over time, although the structure of its writing has not changed much, of course, and as we will see later, the supports and the ways of sending it did change. ...

Before you needed a sheet of paper, a pen and an envelope, and today a computer or cell phone is enough to do it ...

The structure that we mentioned consists of presentation, body and ending or farewell.

The presentation must indicate the date of writing and the place from which it is being written, for example: New York, March 24, 1909.

Lines below must indicate the recipient, if it is a friend we will put: "dear Carlos", while if it is addressed to an official or public body it should be more formal: "Mr. responsible for the communication area of the State Department."

In the first paragraph, the sender will make his personal presentation, that is, he will present his name, the activity he carries out and then he will express the motivation of the letter, a claim, request, a greeting, among others.

The structure that we indicate may vary if there is an informal relationship between sender and recipient.

Until not so long ago, letters were written in handwriting, some used typewriters to make them more verbose if their handwriting was not the clearest or if the recipient was an institution; With the advent of new technology, word processors were designed to write documents such as letters, such is the case of Microsoft Word.

The emergence of new technologies

But today emails have practically replaced the traditional letter.

With an enabled email account and an internet connection they can be sent.

Although traditionally the correspondence has been maintained by written means, new technologies have modified this historical question in some way and then, today, it is absolutely possible to maintain a fluid correspondence with another person electronically, through emails, by example, and put aside the handwritten letters that were all the rage in the past and before the irruption of technology.

But if we stick to the traditional correspondence modality, it should be noted that the letter is placed inside a closed envelope in which the data of who sends and who receives it must be entered.

The name, surname and address of the recipient of the correspondence will be placed on the front of the envelope, and the sender will be indicated on the other side of the envelope, including the same data, name, surname and address.

These data turn out to be of vital importance so that it reaches its destination, or otherwise so that it can effectively return to the person who sent it in case of not being able to reach its destination due to some eventuality.

The postal service is the entity through which letters, telegrams, letter documents, parcels, among others, can be sent.

In some countries the service is run by the state or by private hands.

Relationship between things

On the other hand, the word correspondence is usually used in our language to express the proportion or the relationship that exists between two things.

Metro station where it connects with other

Compensation or return of courtesies
